What is a Heart Award?

A Heart Award is a financial grant provided to youth to bring a positive impact to their community.  Heart Awards are available for individual or group projects, and can be up to $500.

What can the Heart Award grant be used for?

The scope of Heart Award projects are very open-ended.  It is up to the applicants to think about what they are most passionate about and what would make a meaningful impact in their communities.  Projects have ranged from starting a community garden, to filming and screening documentaries about social issues.

When are application deadlines?

Currently we plan to have a deadline in the Fall, Spring, and Summer – around October, March, and June.  Visit the “Apply” page to see when the next deadline is for applications.

Can former recipients apply again for a Heart Award?

Heart Award recipients may reapply after one year of the completion of their first Heart Award project as long as they still meet the eligibility requirements.

What areas or schools do you serve?

We serve the Maryland, D.C., and northern Virginia area, typically inside or near the ‘beltway.’

Are  you an official 501c3 organization?

Yes.  All donations are tax deductible.  Our official name is the Heart Awards Foundation, incorporated in the state of Maryland.
