The founder of I Got Heart was a couple years out of college and upon living for the first time outside of his native home of Prince George’s County realized how much potential in young people just like the peers he grew up with went unfulfilled and unsupported.  The intention of I Got Heart was to (1) support youth who want to make an impact in the community about an issue they are passionate about, and (2) challenge beliefs that youth, especially those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, lack the potential to lead and make significant contributions to the world.  A guiding belief instilled in the work was that it is heart that matters most in life.

I Got Heart was created in 2008 with an all-volunteer team in the DC area as a for-profit corporation with an intent to build social change with a self-sustaining revenue source.  However, with a focus on service and social change the organization changed its tax classification and filed for Non-Profit 501(c)3 status which was granted on in 2010.

I Got Heart has operated with an all volunteer working board augmented by interns since its inception.

The organization has coordinated with schools, nonprofits, and businesses to engage youth in workshops, volunteerism, and Heart Award projects.  Check out our “Past Events” page for some of our recent activity.

Thank you for all of your support,

The I Got Heart team
