About I Got Heart

Work with youth to reach their goals and improve their communities.

  • Young people have the means and courage to reach their personal goals and engage in their communities
  • Adults see youth as partners in the community and understand their passions, ambitions, and strengths
  • All people consider, honor, and explore the value of internal Heart as opposed to external labels we typically use

  • Service

Putting the needs of others before our own to help people move closer to their goals and help the community advance.

  • Inclusion

The first step in building a better future is to include others – we can do more with the diverse experiences, view points, and skills of others than we ever can alone or with only our own perspective.  We will not turn away any individuals with a positive frame of mind.

  • Respect

Every individual’s ideas and experiences are valuable.  We strive to respect the viewpoints of others, even if they differ from ours.

  • Innovation

To achieve new results, we explore new approaches.   I Got Heart seeks to help youth bring new ideas for progress to the community.

  • Resourcefulness

We believe in abundance of resources to achieve our goals as an organization, and work with people to harness the resources in their hearts and communities to achieve change.

  • Empowerment

Providing others the room, opportunity, and support to actualize their potential.

Where we are headed

In 2013, we are piloting a youth development program to work with a cohort of youth over a series of months to reach their personal goals, and show measurable results of progress.  We continue to grant financial awards to youth through our Heart Awards program to fund youth-led projects in the DC area.

I Got Heart is managed by a team of all volunteers and is a 501c3 organization.
